As the first part of a two-year sequence, sixth grade students will examine how the perspectives of political science, economics, geography, history, and archaeology apply to the study of regions and countries. We will study the development of prehistoric societies and then focus on area studies of the Middle East/North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Central America, the Caribbean Islands, and South America. In doing so, you will be better prepared for the second part of the two-year sequence where you will study classical Greece, Rome, and Asia in 7th grade, which will then prepare you for the study of civics in grade 8.
We will use a variety of materials, but the common resource is Burstein, S. and Shek, R. (2012). World History. Florida: Holt-McDougal. We will make extensive use of the online textbook: http://my.hrw.com. All students will log into the online textbook using the following: username: WWGCI and password: history Click on the image of the textbook at the left of your screen to access the online textbook log-in page.
